Superintendent of Service Tax & An Income Tax Inspector Jailed in Bribery Case

The special Judge for CBI Cases, Bangalore has convicted Sri A. Vanangamudi, then Superintendent of Service Tax, Service Tax Commissionerate, Bangalore to undergo two years Simple Imprisonment with fine Rs.20,000/- in a bribery case.

 The investigation revealed that Sri A. Vanangamudi, Superintendent of Service Tax was caught red handed while demanding & accepting a bribe of Rs.25,000/- from the Complainant for not imposing heavy service tax liability on his firm and closing the case file.

 The CBI had filed a charge sheet after completion of investigation against Sri A. Vanangamudi, Superintendent of Service Tax, U/s 7 and Sec. 13(1) (d) r/w 13(2) of PC Act, 1988.

 In an another case, the Special Judge for CBI Cases, Bangalore has convicted Smt. D.Shashireka, then Income Tax Inspector, working in the office of Commissioner of Income Tax-I, Income Tax Appellate Tribunal, Bangalore and sentenced her to undergo two years Simple Imprisonment with fine of Rs.20,000/- in a bribery case.

 The investigation revealed that Smt. D.Shashireka, Income Tax Inspector was caught red handed while demanding & accepting a bribe of Rs.10,000/- from the Complainant for processing the file for a lower rate of TDS deduction U/s 197 of Income Tax Act.

 CBI had filed charge sheet against Smt. D.Shashireka, Income Tax Inspector U/s 7 and Section 13(1)(d) r/w 13(2) of PC Act, 1988.

 The Trial Court found both the accused guilty and convicted them.
